Algonquin park is located between Georgian Bay and the Ottawa river. This provincial park is located in the central are of Ontario. This beautiful park was established in 1893, and is now one of the oldest provincial parks in Canada. The additions that were added to the park in the past few years has increased the park's total area and size by about 7653 square kilometers! Just to give you an idea of how big this park is, it is about one and a half times the size of P.E.I ( Prince Edward Island), and about a quarter of the size of Belgium. Algonquin park is a combination of small parks that protect important rivers and lakes in the area, therefore creating a large protected area. There are over 2400 lakes and about 1200 km of rivers and streams located in this park. Algonquin park is also known as the boarder of northern and southern Ontario. Algonquin Park is home to over 40 mammals, over 30 kinds of reptiles and amphibians (none venomous), and more than 130 breeding birds. There are also a lot of different trees and plants in this park to see. There are so many that it is almost impossible to name them all and they almost completely blanket the landscape of the Park!
